BIO

Rachel Jackson draws on her extensive experience as an intelligence specialist to create twisty branching plotlines that challenge the reader to problem solve and develop a toolbox of critical thinking skills. She strives to create stories as unique and fun as her young daughters – to show them that anything is possible, both in the books and in real life!

She’s also a sucker for good puzzles and bad jokes; subject matter that she shares generously with her readers in the Solve It Your Way series published by Riveted Press.

When she’s not scheming up diabolical plots to entertain young readers, Rachel loves to relax with her family and menagerie of horses, llamas and ducks in the green hills of Central West NSW.

EVENTS

Rachel specialises in hands on, puzzle-fuelled workshops to develop plots, pace and active writing. Best suited for ages 9+ and adaptable to suit small groups or hundreds of participants at a time.

LIBRARY WORKSHOP
Rachel is a thoroughly engaging writer and presenter who delights children and adults alike. Her warmth, humour, and buckets of first-hand knowledge from her career as an intelligence specialist combine to make her a highlight in any library’s events list. I would not hesitate to invite Rachel back to Libraries ACT for more school holiday programs.

HIGH SCHOOL AUTHOR VISIT
Rachel was a fantastic Book Week presenter, captivating our Year 7 and 8 students with her story. She was engaging, organised, and spoke with enthusiasm, holding the attention of each group. Students were reminded of the importance of reading and shown how to write a story in an informative and inspiring way, leaving them with new perspectives and sparking meaningful conversations. Rachel brought great energy and passion to her presentation. Her professionalism, enthusiasm, and ability to connect with young audiences made the event a real success, and I would wholeheartedly recommend her for future school and community events.

LIBRARY WORKSHOP
Rachel Jackson’s Detective School workshop and author talk was a fabulous exploration into forensics and mystery! The concept was widely appealing, and the event was booked out far in advance. Rachel was well prepared and brought a wealth of knowledge, experience and fun, all of which linked back to the mysteries in her book and her real-life intelligence career. Children loved learning about fingerprinting, cracking codes, and creating secret messages. The workshop culminated in a challenge, with the participants having to use all of their newfound skills to solve a mystery with real prizes. We loved having Rachel visit our library, and would recommend this workshop to other libraries and schools.
